Donald J. Smith - April 10, 1944 to January 12, 2018.
There are many thoughts and feelings that have bounced in and out of my brain since I got the call on Sunday evening. Hopefulness that this was just a scare and that he was going to be alright...helplessness when we were informed that my dad had suffered a catastrophic stroke and that the end was near...sorrow when we said goodbye and walked out of BMC for the last time without him...but there is one that has stuck with me throughout - pride for having the privilege to have called him my dad.
Everyone of us know these days will eventually come and hope that it is not as soon as it ends up being . Please know that even if it is not said there is great appreciation from me and my family for the outreach, kind words and gestures that have already been shown to my family this week.
Can I ask a favor of each of you? Instead of replying or posting to this could you pick up the phone and call, text or email someone that you have lost touch with over the last few months or even years and reconnect with them? For some reason I think my dad would have really liked that.
